"I was born under unusual circumstances. And so begins The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any mans life can be. Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Taraji P. Henson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, Benjamin Button, is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time." - Written by kyle_bonnici on IMDB.com

Language:   Swedish, subtitled in English
Directed By:   Tomas Alfredson
Written By:   John Ajvide Lindqvist (novel) and John Ajvide Lindqvist (screenplay)
Runtime:   Approx. 114 mins.

STORY: "Oskar, a bullied 12-year old, dreams of revenge. He falls in love with Eli, a peculiar girl. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other peoples blood to live he's faced with a choice. How much can love forgive? Let The Right One In is a story both violent and highly romantic, set in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg in 1982." - Written by John Nordling, Producer on IMDB.com

REVIEW: (in part) "Oskar is lonely. His parents have separated, neither one wants him, he is alone a lot. He hangs around outside in the snowy Swedish night. One night, he meets a kid named Eli (Lina Leandersson) who is about his age. Eli is lonely, too, and they become friends. Oskar is at that age when he accepts astonishing facts calmly, because life has given up trying to surprise him. Eli walks through the snow without shoes. Eli has a faint scent almost of a ... corpse. "Are you a vampire?" he asks Eli. Yes. Oh. They decide to have a sleepover in his bed."

"Oskar is cruelly bullied at school by a sadistic bully, who travels with a posse of two smaller thugs and almost drowns him in a swimming pool. At a time like this, it is useful to have a vampire as your best pal. Remove the vampire elements, and this is the story of two lonely and desperate kids capable of performing dark deeds without apparent emotion. Kids washed up on the shores of despair. The young actors are powerful in draining roles. We care for them more than they care for themselves... We learn that a vampire must be invited into a room before it can enter. Now the title makes sense." - Written by Roger Ebert. To read this entire review, please see RogerEbert.com

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975) (R) (w/ Live Cast!)

Directed By:  Jim Sharman
Written By:  Jim Sharman, based on the play by Richard O'Brien

STORY: "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a magical phenomenon unlike anything ever before seen onscreen. Borrowing largely from cinema's horror conventions, the film begins as an innocent young couple is stranded at the home of a mad scientist who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played magnificently by the fabulously sexy Tim Curry, in leather jacket, pearls, fishnet stockings, and heavy makeup. Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) are forced to examine their own sexuality as the voluptuous doctor releases the hidden desires in each of them. Based on the stage musical by Richard O'Brien (who also appears in the film as Riff Raff), the film comes alive with unforgettable song-and-dance numbers that have come to represent the sexual liberation of the 1970s. The outstanding costuming and makeup, the terrific acting by a group of relative unknowns (Curry, O'Brien, Bostwick, Sarandon, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn, Meat Loaf), and the memorable songs ("Time Warp," "Sweet Tranvestite") help make The Rocky Horror Picture Show one of the most bizarrely entertaining and satisfying musicals ever made." - From IMDB.com

SHOW: Since it's 1975 release, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" has evolved into a phenomenon. Live casts all over the world perform the movie while it is being shown on a movie screen, even duplicating the costumes, movements, and props. Over the years, audience participation (AP) lines have been created to shout during gaps in dialogue to get laughs, frequently using profanity and sexual themes. Another Rocky tradition involves the audience using specific props during the movie, such as throwing rice during the wedding scene, toast during a toast, and more ("prop bags" are available through the cast). People who have never seen a live performance of the movie are known as "virgins" and go through an embarassing, but harmless, de-virginization ritual before the movie starts. At our theatre, a live cast, called "Interchangeable Parts," performs "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on Saturday nights at 11:50pm. The show is adult-oriented and rated R (no one under 17 admitted without parent or guardian). Parental discretion is advised.
